Most roofing and trades businesses don’t keep everything in one place. Materials might be spread across a main warehouse, a satellite branch, and several service trucks — and knowing what’s where is just as important as knowing the total. InventoryHQ’s multi-location tracking gives you a unified view of all your stock, broken down by location, so nothing falls through the cracks.

What Counts as a Location

In InventoryHQ, a location can be any physical or logical place where inventory is stored or managed:
  • Warehouses — your primary or secondary material storage facilities
  • Branch offices — satellite locations that maintain their own stock
  • Service trucks — each truck can be its own location, stocked with the materials and tools that crew needs on the road
  • Employees — individual team members who hold assigned tools or supplies
Service trucks are fully supported as inventory locations. See the Service Trucks overview to learn how to set up and manage truck-level inventory alongside crew assignments and job scheduling.

Add a New Location

1

Go to Settings

From the main navigation, click Settings, then select Locations from the left menu.
2

Click Add Location

Select the + Add Location button. A form appears asking for the location’s details.
3

Fill in the location details

Enter the following information:
4

Save the location

Click Save Location. The new location is immediately available as a destination when adding items, transferring stock, or filtering the inventory dashboard.
Adding a location beyond your plan’s included count requires an active add-on. See the plan details below before adding locations, to avoid an unexpected billing change.

View Inventory by Location

Once you have multiple locations set up, you can switch between a unified view and a location-specific view from the inventory dashboard.
  • All Locations view — The default dashboard view. Shows the combined stock quantity for every item across all locations. Use this for a high-level picture of your total inventory.
  • Single Location view — Use the Location filter at the top of the dashboard to select a specific warehouse, branch, or truck. The item list updates to show only the stock held at that location, with quantities specific to that site.
Field crews checking stock from a job site can filter the mobile app to their assigned truck location — so they only see what’s loaded on their vehicle, not the full company catalog.

Transfer Stock Between Locations

Moving materials from a warehouse to a truck, or from a truck to a job site, is recorded as a stock transfer — keeping quantities accurate at both ends.
1

Open the item you want to transfer

From the inventory dashboard, click the item. In the item detail view, click the Transfer Stock button.
2

Select the source and destination

Choose the From location (where the stock is currently) and the To location (where it’s going). Both dropdowns show all active locations on your account.
3

Enter the transfer quantity

Type the number of units you’re moving. InventoryHQ will warn you if you attempt to transfer more than the current quantity at the source location.
4

Add an optional note

You can attach a note to the transfer — for example, “Loaded for Job #1042” or “Restocking Truck 4 from main warehouse.” Notes are stored in the item’s activity log.
5

Confirm the transfer

Click Confirm Transfer. The source location’s quantity decreases and the destination location’s quantity increases instantly. Both changes appear in the audit log with a timestamp and the user who initiated the transfer.
