# Configure and Manage Measurement Units for Inventory

> Learn how to manage measurement units in Inventory HQ. Covers default units, activating and deactivating units, editing, deleting, and adding custom units for bulk imports.

Units define how you measure inventory in Inventory HQ, from boxes and bundles to linear feet and square feet. Setting up the right units before you add inventory ensures your records, pulls, and reports stay consistent.

## Default units

Inventory HQ comes with the following units pre-loaded and active by default:

| Unit                 | Status |
| :------------------- | :----- |
| **Barrels**          | Active |
| **Box**              | Active |
| **Buckets**          | Active |
| **Bundle**           | Active |
| **Each**             | Active |
| **LF (Linear Feet)** | Active |
| **Rolls**            | Active |
| **Sq**               | Active |
| **Sqft**             | Active |

## Managing units

  Only Company Admins can manage units.

* Use the toggle to **activate** or **deactivate** a unit. Deactivated units stop appearing in inventory dropdowns but existing records keep their unit.
* Use **Edit** to rename a unit, or **Delete** to remove it permanently.
* Add any custom units your business uses before you import inventory, since the bulk template is built from this list.

  Do not delete a unit that is already associated with existing inventory records. Deactivate it instead. Deleting an in-use unit can cause data inconsistencies.
