# Handle Partial and Leftover Materials in Inventory HQ

> Learn the approved process for restocking partial quantities from jobs in Inventory HQ. Keep job costs accurate while capturing leftover value back into inventory.

When partial quantities come back from a job, for example half a roll or part of a box, they are not returned against the original pull. The job consumed them and the job is charged for them. Inventory HQ uses a specific restock process to keep the original job cost accurate while still capturing the leftover value back into inventory.

## The approved process for partials

<Steps>
  <Step title="Create a new inventory item for the partial">
    Create a new inventory item named for the partial, for example "Synthetic Felt – Half Roll".
  </Step>

  <Step title="Price it proportionally">
    Price the new item proportionally to the full item. A half roll is priced at half the full-roll price.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Restock it into the correct location">
    Use **Restock** on the new item and add it into the correct warehouse or service truck. It is now available to be pulled on a future job at the correct value.

## Partials vs. returns

Partial quantities and full unused units are handled differently in Inventory HQ:

| Situation                        | Action to take                                                               |
| :------------------------------- | :--------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Partial or leftover quantity** | Restock as a new, proportionally priced item (the process above)             |
| **Full unused units**            | Use [Return Material](/jobs/return-material) against the original FIFO batch |

  Return Material is for full unused units only. Partial or leftover quantities must be restocked as a new item, never returned against the original pull.
